Blocking access to spam/malware sites

Is it possible to do hostname blocking with the Ampifi mesh like I can do on my computer by adding hosts to /etc/hosts?
0.0.0.0 virus infected.website.xxx
etc. My hosts file is over 50,000 entries and growing.
I would prefer not to have to run a DNS server on my machine and then point the AMPLIFI at it, but is that the only solution?
Or would this be something where it would be better to use an Edgerouter between the AMPLIFI base and the cable modem?

Have you looked at Pi-Hole? Seems extremely well suited for this.

How to use Pi-Hole or other in-house DNS filter with Amplifi:
- Create static DHCP lease for your Pi-Hole (or similar) device. For example, 192.168.1.100.
- Specify this address (192.168.1.100) as your DNS server in Amplifi Internet settings:
- Navigate to Amplifi Web interface (http://amplifi.lan) and Enable "Bypass DNS cache" option.

Alternate DNS seems to work well. Just set your Amplfi DNS to route through their DNS servers and you should achieve ad free surfing with minimum hassle.
