Pretty old thread but for anyone still trying to fix this does turning off the "Router Steering"setting under the Main Router's WIRELESS menu solve the issue? I noticed it on that menu at least 6 months and switched it off based on the description provided and am currently successfully daisy chaining my mesh points for what it's worth.

@Anslater Can't test it. I had given up months ago, the machine is sold.

What did you buy ?

@victorhorta this is in no way an endorsement, but I went to a local big-box store and bought the Orbi system. It's far from perfect, but it was inexpensive (around $100 for 3 mesh points) and fast. My point is not to promote that product, but to point out that even one of the cheapest systems around performed better than my amplify system.
However, I will add that the amplifi HD router performs at the full speed when it's used in bridge mode. I just won't do so when running as our house-wide router.
