Introducing AmpliFi Gamer's Edition

I'm puzzled as to why ubnt didn't take up sqm into more products, given how popular it is on the edgerouter.

Hi @dave-taht - doesn't sqm require bandwidth inputs and then ideally tuning?
The AmpliFi philosophy appears to be simplicity for the consumer.
The speed testing in the regular HD/Instant line & app are pretty bad and unreliable.
The assumption is the Gamer's Edition is using the nVidia GeForce NOW network to obtain reliable speed and latency data to automate sqm or some variant QoS.
Us regular HD / Instant users won't have access to that.
So if there is a way to automate sqm without user input or feedback, I believe that is what the AmpliFi guys would need.
@derek-saville Netgear does it already they use fq_codel and they automatically set bandwidth to 95% I heard.

Hi @edward-dolezal - how does Netgear know what the bandwidths are to set the 95% limit?
On the EdgeRouter you have to manually enter upload and/or download bandwidth settings, which it also multiplies by 95% and then manages.
From there you can go into much more detailed advanced tuning.
And if you take the speeds from your ISP gateway that doesn't necessarily help if you are trying to stream to servers in a different hemisphere.
I believe that is where the GE's GeForce NOW tuning allows them adjust QoS parameters to a specific gaming server on the fly.
It would be nice if AmpliFi implemented a SQM setting in the web interface to allow enthusiast users to manually enter parameters, knowing the consequences and ramifications like disabling HW NAT.
But I can't imagine them doing it for enthusiasts unless there is a path to simplicity for the general population, like what the Gamer's Edition is implementing.

Aslo Asus has two forms of hardware acceleration CTF (cut though forwaing) and (flow acceleration) I think it's called the only CTF works with QoS FA doesnt.

Hi @edward-dolezal - sounds good, but AmpliFi can barely automate their channel selections successfully...
I can also reboot my modem and router 10 times and get 10 different speed results from DSL Reports
Just my opinion, but AmpliFi doesn't want to cater to enthusiasts with the general line the same as an ASUS.
They are dabbling with the Gamer's Edition using an nVidia partnership that still allows for their ease-of-use mantra.
But I refuse to buy 'kits' so I can't play with one.
Like @MichaelE I am playing with an ER-X in transparent bridge mode for sqm fq_codel
@derek-saville Asus is getting locked down by the minute due to all the firmware porting done by Chinese modders who break gpl, and port over the Merlin fork of ASUS wrt, one of the issue with the amplfi is the tiny amount of ram it would be nice if they included a quad core CPU in the gamers edition as well as an increase in ram, the Mesh points should have more antennas at least 4.

So I purchased the Gamer's Edition Kit from Amplifi. According to the instructions, it has to replace my my current main AmplifiHD Router, so I did that. Well now I am realizing the old router cannot be used as a mesh point on this system because it was originally purchased as a kit! Wow, what a flaw in a product lineup, very disappointed!
@scott-mckinney should not be an issue with paring how is the word on it anyway just factory reset the idk router and use the app to pairs it or the new unit it should come up as Mesh point detected.
@UBNT-Brett so do the omni directional antennas provide better signal that the standard kit as well as performance?
Also will there be a non gamers edition with the new Mesh point design in white or an updated hd kit with omnidirectional antennas in the mesh points?
@edward-dolezal They are similar antennas, but yes a little more omni directional since they cannot be swiveled around. Performance may or may not be better, that is dependent on the environment.
@ubnt-brett so it's possible the preformace will be the same.
@ubnt-brett so it's it safe to assume the new QoS only affects GeForce now traffic and optimisation for that in particular?

@ubnt-brett will the factory reset, reset the amplifi HD router and mesh points that came in the kit so we can use these as additional mesh points on the new gamers router?

@brennen-gagnon No the kits are factory paired and this pairing cannot be broken
MichaelE last edited by
@ubnt-brett that has never seemed like a popular feature, based on comments here and Reddit.
Curious, if no one here appreciates the pairing, even on the original models, why has it done?

@brennen-gagnon Can you not factory reset your old system, then set it to bridge mode, and set the wireless settings to match the Gamer's edition Unit?
@michaele ease of use, it's done to be a set and forget measure for people that want something that just work's.
