Backhaul setup "Unsupported device configuration" error
-
I am trying to set up a 2nd mesh router with the same IP address as the first one. Following the steps of the backhaul set up, but when I click on "Add to Network" with the app, I get a message "unsupported device configuration" and a note that "only standalone devices can be added to an existing system." Any ideas how to overcome this?

Hi @brad-dejean - is the 2nd mesh router from a kit?
Or was it purchased as a standalone unit?How are you giving it the same IP address?
I don't think that will work
Or do you mean the same SSID?

Thank you for replying. The 2nd mesh router was purchased in a kit, just like the first one. In other words, I have two kits, each containing a mesh router and two mesh points. I probably mean SSID. I am not a technical guy. What I want is one wireless mesh network to cover my entire house and needed two mesh routers to do that. I intend to use ethernet on the 2nd mesh router once it's configured.

@brad-dejean There is no workaround for connecting two kit routers into one mesh. I would seek a refund and purchase a standalone router. Any possible workaround that may be available will not provide you with the best mesh possible network

@ubnt-brett
Brett, thank you. Are you saying that if I purchase a standalone amplifi router like this one at best buy, I will be able to add it to the existing mesh network?
-
Hi @brad-dejean - yes, you can add that standalone HD router to your original mesh kit and it will use your existing SSID for a single WiFi network
-
@brad-dejean That is correct!

@derek-saville Thank you so much!

@ubnt-brett
I bought a "AmpliFi Mesh Wi-Fi System" a few weeks ago which I got up and running. My wireless devices around the house are happy.
However, I have one device that requires a wired connection and, unfortunately, that device is not physically near the router. So I purchased a second "AmpliFi Mesh Wi-Fi System" after reading that I could use the second router as part of the mesh network and provide that wired device with access. Bonus is that I could fill in the gaps around the house with the two MeshPoints.
However, it's not working and I'm getting the dreaded "Unsupported Device Configuration" error message when attempting to set up the second router.
From what I'm reading there's a subtle difference in the router sold as part of the "AmpliFi Mesh Wi-Fi System" and the standalone "AmpliFi HD Mesh Router". That subtle difference causes the router to not connect to the existing mesh network. Is that correct?
I just want to make sure that the above is correct before I go through the hassle of a return.
Please advise.

Hi @kirk-true - that is correct, you cannot join mesh kit systems together
If you have a mesh system you can only expand it with additional standalone devices
-
@kirk-true That is correct, you will want to return the HD kit you purchased and add an AFI-R https://store.amplifi.com/products/amplifi-mesh-router
