Teleport VPN with Windows devices
-
I hope this is in the right section. This is regarding using the teleport app/VPN after 3.1.0 firmware update in the router. I downloaded the AmpliFi Teleport app and it works fine. Is there a way to use this new teleport feature on a Windows laptop?
-
@jason-meyer Hi Jason, there are no apps available at this time for Windows/macOS environments.
-
Hi @jason-meyer - does the Teleport app work via cellular and could you then hotspot a Windows laptop?
-
@jason-meyer The app is currently only Available for iOS, and Android devices. Unfortunately, when you enable a mobile hot spot on a phone it connects those devices to your mobile carrier, not carrying over the VPN connection. It is limited to only the device that has the app installed.

@Virgil-Nicolae , @Derek-Saville , and @UI-Brett , thanks for the replies. That was my thought. I just wasn't sure if there was a way to sign in through the amplifi.com website to connect to the vpn that way. Not sure if that could be a feature request or not. Just looking for a secure way to use the Windows laptop on an open/unsecured wifi hotspot.
-
@jason-meyer yes, it is standard in case of synology. Buy a Synology router and its working fine!
Anyway Synology does not have AppleTV application, so mybe its better, if you use iOS, tvOS devices.

@UI-Brett Any update from Ubiquiti on implementing this as a feature? As it looks like the Teleport hardware is EOL it would be really nice to VPN on my laptop to my home network. Thanks!
-
@brian-merritt We do not have any confirmation that this will be implemented, we are still supporting the Teleport and you can buy them in the kit with the HD router still on our store. Alternatively you can use another AmpliFi router when you are remote and utilize the router to router Teleport feature.

@UI-JT Hi, teleport HD is not available in all countries and is deprecated. There is no logic to buy it, is it so difficult to port ios or android app to windows?
Thx, i need this feature so much
-
@FixiePixie Hello, I do not know of any plans to create an application for Windows/iOS, but I will add your feature request. Thanks.
-
@UI-JT The Teleport Windows 10 app ready yet??? I'll be glad to be a BETA tester...
-
@Robert-Maarschalkerweerd I do not know of any plans to develop this at all. We are currently not working on this but I will add your vote for this feature.
-
@UI-JT a sulution to use the VPN on a laptop would be great. In Holland it is impossible to but the teleport hardware, and mobiles sharing WiFi on a hotspot do not use the VPN
-
@Remco-Martens Thanks for your vote regarding this feature.
-
I agree, been using AmpliFi HD Mesh and Teleport for a while now and it works good, but there needs to be proper support for Mac OS and Windows. Only being able to access your services from your phone is not good enough.
-
Not having Windows/MacOS support is a major downfall of using the AmpliFi setup. Please develop at least a work around in the meantime.
-
Signed up just to say how badly I want this feature. PLEASE
Does anyone actually do anything useful with a VPN connection to their phone?
-
Come on, AmpliFi. Every OS has a built-in VPN client. You advertised VPN as a feature. Nobody told us it was only usable with your proprietary client.

I would also like to stress the importance of using this hardware teleport device on a Windows machine. This would keep the hardware device current, and it would not have to go onto the EOL list. i'm sure it would even promote selling more of the units. Please, develop software to be able to use this device on a Windows machine. Shortly after I purchased one for full price, you developed the software app which works on android ( sort of, cant get it to display list of wifi SSID's on the screen. Always blank ) and ios. Why would you not do it for desktops and laptops. This would be a GREAT feature. Keep the hardware device active!

Also signed up just to say I really want a Windows client!
