Check Wifi Signal Strength
-
Add the ability to see the WiFi signal strength within the app.
-
@ahmed-ahmede If you navigate to the family tab on the mobile app, then select your device you will see an option for Client Details. On this page you will see which wireless mesh point that device is connected to, as well as its connection strength.
-
@ui-brett
Thank you.
-
Would it be possible to display the signal strength in db ?
-
@ahmed-ahmede you can use wifi man for that, but I personally would not mind seeing a
96% and ADB reading next to it.
-
@edward-dolezal Where does WiFi Man display signal strength in db?
-
@ahmed-ahmede I will submit that as a feature request! Thank you for the suggestion
-
@fred-kinder-0 when you tap on the said it has a letter and a reading from poor to great.
It all so tells you the dBm value under that poor to great.
-
@edward-dolezal i downloaded Wifiman. I cannot find what you referring to
-
@edward-dolezal What OS are you running WiFiMan under? I don't see that option in iOS. Is it in Status, Speed Test, or Discovery. In fact, I don't see SSID's, just the SSID I'm connected to at the moment.
-
Hi @matthew-leeds - WiFiMan on iOS is essentially worthless since Apple locks the app out of discovering anything of value
The old AirPort Utility from Apple may be the only app that can provide any useful information
-
@matthew-leeds android
-
@derek-saville Last time I looked, the Apple Airport Utility only works on networks having an Apple Airport device such as Extreme, Time Capsule or Express.
-
Hi @fred-kinder-0 - you can still install Airport Utility on any iOS device and enable Wi-Fi Scanner in the Settings panel
Then when you run the Airport Utility, even without any Apple Airport devices, you can initiate a "Wi-Fi Scan" of the local environment
This provides a report of SSID's along with their corresponding MAC address, RSSI in dBm and the Channel being used
So you are only using the app for the Wi-Fi Scan function, and to my limited knowledge, it is the only Apple approved app for reporting such information on iOS, but would be very happy to learn if others are available
-
@derek-saville That is the only one I've found. Still works under iOS 13. Need to use an Android device (I picked up a used LG Gpad for $50) or for me, Windows. Under Android I've been using WiFi Analyzer and NetX. Both offer good detail.
-
@derek-saville there is no settings option in the airport app
-
Hi @ahmed-ahmede - it is in the main Settings control panel for the app, not in the app itself...scroll to the bottom and enable the Wi-Fi Scanner, and then the scan function will appear in the app
-
@derek-saville Thank you. Found it.
-
@ahmed-ahmede Be sure to quit the app when not using it to preserve battery life.
