2 Amplifi Router as access points to build a mesh?
-
Hi,
I have a Fritz Box 6490 as router and an Amplifi HD router configured as acces point and connected by lan. Is it possible to connect a second Amplifi HD router as access point with the Fritz box by lan and build a mesh with these 2 Amplifi routers? They would both be configured as access points / bridge mode.
greets
Rainer

@rainer-dippert I don't know that strictly speaking it would be a mesh... but use the same SSID and password on both nodes and you'll be able to roam.

@chris-dunlop
thanks for the quick answer. This would be fine. But is it possible to configure both amplifi as access points? Or is it neccessary that one amplifi has to be a router?

Hi @rainer-dippert - you can do one router in bridge mode and add the second as a mesh point (for Ethernet backhaul WAN on the 2nd router must be connected to LAN on the bridge mode router)
Or you can run both in bridge mode managed independently as @Chris-Dunlop suggests)

Alright, thanks a lot! Then I will run both in bridge mode, because I already have a lan connection at both places.

@rainer-dippert I recommend running one in bridge mode, and the second as a mesh point with Ethernet backhaul enabled. This will create the best connection possible and better roaming capabilities. As @Derek-Saville said, use the WAN on the second router connected to the LAN on the primary AmpliFi. This Article may help.
