AmpliFi by Ubiquiti Labs Introduces the AmpliFi Alien

@ui-brett wait, wait, wait... is VLAN ID supported for WAN side of things like the Amplifi HD’s? PLEASE tell me you guys didn’t get rid of that.

Hi, what is the wireless performance on this device on the 2.4ghz and 5GHZ like compared to the new Ubiquiti Dream Machine? Which one is faster with more reach? Excluding WiFi 6. I’m interested in both products but I need good wireless.

Hi Brett,
I am currently having a mesh of 4 Amplifi HD using the wire for backhaul. Can I extend my mesh by placing the Alien in the center and having the exiting mesh wired into the Alien (replacing my Netgear X10)?
Let's say I am accepting Alien performance (WiFi 6) in the livingroom and the old HDs throughout the house.
thx

Since the Amplifi Alien router doesn’t support the existing — albeit discontinued hardware teleport, can we expect a new hardware “Alien Teleport” in the future?
Or is the preferred/only hardware solution to connect to a 2nd Alien router? Can you also teleport to a Amplifi HD or Amplifi instant?
-
@matthew-leeds The power cord will be a standard 2 pin design.
-
@tony-penev Yes, that is still available and did not change
-
@big-mamma The "work around" for this would be to place the AmpliFi Alien in the center of your network. Then configure one primary AmpliFi HD with the same SSID and password and place it into bridge mode. From there you can configure the remaining HD's with ethernet backhaul as mesh points to the HD placed in bridge mode.
In theory, the delay in handoff with not having all devices meshed together will not be very different in your environment because you already have a 3rd party router in the middle, but ideally you would want all Alien devices.
-
@derek-s Currently the preferred and only solution would be to use the AmpliFi Teleport app for mobile devices, and for all other devices use any other stand alone AmpliFi router with the Router to Router feature.
AmpliFi Alien is fully compatible with these two Teleport features, and it was designed so that users can share Teleport codes across all devices (Alien, HD, Instant, App)

@mark-richards This is a great question, with both devices just being released. We are excited to see how the two stack up, we do not currently have a comparison.
-
@ui-jt You certainly haven’t made it an easy choice! I look forward to any comparisons being carried out, two good devices being launched at the same time and in my opinion, both aimed at the home user more then the work environment.

@ui-brett Can an Amplifi HD Mesh Point connect to the Amplifi Alien without an Amplifi HD router involved?
-
I currently have 1gig coming to house via Fiber, and my speeds are decent via wired and I am using a Wired Luxul switch to dictate locations etc.. I use the Amplifi HD Router on main Floor and 3 Antenna. I get between 800-150Mbps depending on device and location, but devices that have better antennas in them just do better, example my iMac via wireless is almost as fast as wired. 600-800 Speeds, on my Phone in same room 80-150Mbps. My question is if I get two of these will it have better coverage than current setup, my issues is trying to push other interference from other networks out of the way so my signal is the strongest and one that goes further out and still has a decent signal.
Thanks for any help.
Beam me up!
lol
PS, why doesn't Best Buy or any other stores have these? I only have today to take my HD unit back otherwise I am stuck with them, which isn't a bad thing, if I keep and upgrade later this summer, just move this system to my lake house.
You guys really need a call center number, it would set you apart from other manufactures that could help with tech support!
-
@james-ford No, Alien only works with Alien (Unless you configure an AmpliFi HD stand alone mesh point in 3rd party mode, but this works as an extender and not a true integrated mesh so the performance will not be the same)

I referenced a similar situation in this thread.
Also, we have plans to have our AmpliFi Alien product in retailers like Best Buy and Amazon, but for the initial release it was only our AmpliFi Webstore
-
@ui-brett So since you guys been most likely testing these out compared to the HD system, what have been the benefits that you have seen using the Alien over the HD units? Less Hops, I would think, which would lead to less speed degradation. I have a 4000sq house that is chopped up. Trying to make the best choice, and where can you buy these today? Sorry most likely a redundant post!
Brett: Thanks for helpline etc... But I mean live line, not by leaving a message..

@UI-Brett will the Amplifi Alien support port aggregation?
-
@patrick-corey No, this feature is not available on the AmpliFi Alien.
-
@UI-Brett Be glad to beta test these if you'd like to ship one my way!
These look like serious beasts. Might be time for an upgrade.

Does the alien support device prioritization like the Gamers Edition?
