[Resolved (temp solution)] Teleport App Fails to Connect - Multiple Source Networks / Multiple Destination Networks
-
I have had very little success with the Teleport App on iOS between multiple devices, multiple source networks, multiple destination networks, over multiple transports.
For example:
iPad -> Work Wifi -> Internet -> (Home A - ISP A) -> Amplifi HD
iPad -> Work Wifi -> Internet -> (Home B - ISP B) -> Amplifi Instant
iPad -> TMobile -> (Home A - ISP A) -> Amplifi HD
iPad -> TMobile -> (Home B - ISP B) -> Amplifi Instant.... rinse and repeat for iPhone ....
Connecting to Internet -> Tunnel Active -> Could Not Establish Connection! message
It appears that some type of initial registration is working, because in the app I can see my remote device (iPad / iPhone) in the list of devices.
Without more logging info, where do I even begin to troubleshoot?
-
Hi @Michael-Eckhoff - can you router-to-router Teleport from Home B AmpliFi Instant to Home A AmpliFi HD?
Or can you Teleport App from a client at Home B to Home A?
For example... iPhone -> AmpliFi Instant -> (Home B - ISP B) -> Internet -> (Home A - ISP A) -> Amplifi HDI would first get both the Work WiFi and TMobile out of the test chain first to confirm if things are working or not
-
@Michael-Eckhoff Can you send support files from both Home A and Home B. I believe this is an issue with Tmobiles use of IPv6, we are working on resolving it.
-
@Derek-Saville They’re two different networks - one is my parents home and the other is mine. So I can’t really link them together without risking knocking them off-line (and it’s like a 17 hour drive :).
-
@UI-JT Sure - I’ll generate them and send them over this afternoon. I’ll drop you a PM once submitted.
-
Hi @Michael-Eckhoff - understood
You might just try using the Teleport app to connect your iPad to your parents AmpliFi router from your home WiFi network
That would at least tell you if it’s working when taking TMobile and your work network out of the loop
-
@Derek-Saville That actually worked. Which basically leaves TMobile (with a known issue) and my work location (quite possibly our firewall, i'll ask someone pull logs tomorrow) as being the differences.
Edit: I take that back. It worked once. Disconnecting and trying again failed the next two times. Then worked the third. I'll pull the logs since there are a couple of failures in there.
@UI-JT I didn't get the log pulled while I was at the office. I'll make a point to do it tomorrow.
What protocol(s) (AH, ESP, UDP, TCP) does the teleport app use?
-
Hi @Michael-Eckhoff - Teleporting can definitely be blocked, as I can’t get through our enterprise firewall but can through the corporate guest network
People with AmpliFi routers at home behind EdgeRouters or Microtik’s have also been blocked, and to my knowledge, AmpliFi hasn’t advised what needs to be opened up for it to work
Would be great to know though
-
@Michael-Eckhoff TCP/UDP
-
@UI-JT Any specific ports? I know we can set one in the web GUI - is that the tcp or udp port?
We use deep packet inspection and I’m wondering if from there work location of the firewall isn’t identifying this as something else.
-
@Michael-Eckhoff I cannot confirm what ports it is using.
-
For anyone still following, working with support, this is all tied to the T-Mobile link — even the work scenario. Since my iPad has cellular data with T-Mobile as well, it behaves the same as the phone, and fails VPN. Turning off cellular data fixes it for now until the final fix can be rolled out.
-
Any timeline on a fix?
I have the exact same issue except I need it to work on T-Mobile, not WiFi
-
Same issue happens to me. Teleport never works when connected to T-Mobile 4G or LTE.

Hi @chanlkanthony - one user is saying in the beta firmware thread that the latest testflight beta of the iOS Teleport App has fixed the T-Mobile connection issue...
https://community.amplifi.com/topic/2904/alien-firmware-3-4-0rc1/33
Here is the link to the new beta Teleport app: https://testflight.apple.com/join/0zchzq2w.
It has several improvements which can increase successful connection chance and speed.
-
@Derek-Saville
doesn't work for me
-
It also did not work for me with Beta app alone. I suspect you also need the router beta firmware update for this to work? Haven't tried that yet
-
Hi @jensmoes - that is a possibility
The beta firmware release notes regarding Teleport are the same...
- Improved Teleport app and router-to-router connection

Feedback on the beta RC's has been positive so hopefully they are validated soon
-
@Derek-Saville upgrading the router firmware to the latest beta did indeed fix the issue so we can look forward to a universal solution very soon I am sure

I have updated to 3.4 on the Alien and also installed 1.1.3(3) from test flight on my iPhone 11 Pro Max, still doesn't work with TMobile in the US.
