Teleport for macOS
-
It would be 10x more useful if I could use the VPN connection on my MacBook. Are there any plans to support macOS (or Windows)?
-
@henshaw as far as I can say, based on the forum discussions and some shared information from support people, there are no foreseeable plans to have the teleport app migrated to macOS.
-
I've wondered the same thing. At least for the Mac, this would be easily accomplished by them releasing the app with the Project Catalyst, and enabling Mac OS, in Xcode which allows their iOS app to run on MacOS as a stand alone Mac OS app. Not sure why they have not added this yet. They seem adamant in keep ing the Amplifi products tied to and reliant on mobile OS, unlike the Ubiquiti products.
-
I think they would be surprised at how many Amplifi routers they would sell if they opened it up to desktop OSes. It's a big demand that's only growing, and once the word got out that owning an Amplifi router at home could give you a free VPN on your own network away from home, it would get a lot of attention. Perhaps they're concerned it might cannibalize their Ubiquiti offerings, but I don't think it will. This is for consumers and prosumers. A lot of money to be made here if they would just do it.

I assume if i tether to my phone which is then using the VPN would that work, I agree that having this available on Mac and Windows would offer alot more value.
-
@Craig-Hinchliffe
Good point - so I can connect with my mobile phone but two things don't work if I activate teleport on my phone- If I activate it, it connects and I can browser and takes the IP address from my home connection. But: I cannot access ANY local devices (like 192.168.2.xxx:xxxx)
- If I do tethering with my phone I can't access anything form my laptop either
Not sure why?
-
@henshaw yes I would really like to see the Teleport app on MacOS
-
I cannot access ANY local devices
Hi @tankmann - have you enabled Local Network Access in the AmpliFi app for the client?

According to past statements by @UI-Brett the Teleport app does not support tethering

Please, add support fort macOS
-
Oh man I’m heart broken. I need to use a real computer, not my phone to get onto my home network. Please support OSX or allow us to use an openVPN client so we can use this on our computers. I can’t think of a single use case for why I’d want it on my phone.
-
To not let this thread die, I want to push it up again. I would also like to have a Mac/Win support for teleport.
-
I agree! I would love support for macOS. That way I could get rid of my other VPN-client all together. Big plus!
In this article, Amplifi stands out as the winner against Google Nest prominently because of its VPN feature, think how great that point of difference would be if it also supported Mac/Win.

Add my vote for Windows/Mac/Linux/Chromebook. It's counter-intuitive to only have the app available for Android and iOS.
-
Just want to add my vote as well. PLEASE add this.
-
would be great to have it on desktop (windows and mac...)
-
I support this for both windows and Mac.
In windows is could be a uwp app.
-
Waiting for update.

@l3il2D An update was given on this thread: https://community.amplifi.com/topic/3743/teleport-for-macos
It has been requested, but we have a solution for this in our Router to Router Teleport feature.
-
@UI-AmpliFi the AmpliFi routers are for consumer use. The core use case for consumers wanting to use the VPN server with macOS and Windows is the same for iOS and Android, which is to use it over a public Wi-Fi connection when they aren't home. The suggestion that "Router to Router" is the answer to this would mean that one would need to plugin and setup an AmpliFi router at a Starbucks or an airport, and then connect their laptop computer to it. That's not a solution at all for anyone. It's convoluted and unworkable.
The request is to add support to macOS and Windows the same way there is support for mobile devices. AmpliFi currently does not have a solution to that. To say otherwise is false and a complete misunderstanding of what your customers are asking for.
-
Just wanted to add a +1 for this request (a Teleport app for macOS).
Also, agreed that the Router-to-Router support is insufficient -- imagine trying to setup something like that while in a coffee shop, commuting via bus/train, or a myriad of other scenarios where you're on the go... wow
