AmpliFi Alien Firmware v3.3.1
-
After updating my Alien to 3.3.1, it consistently and constantly reboots itself.
-
Unfortunately, this firmware doesn't have firmware rollback implemented. I just confirmed this after installing 3.3.1.

Hi @Lawliet-Keffor - you can still manually rollback if necessary
Contact @UI-Karlis to obtain a previous version firmware and instructions
-
@Derek-Saville @UI-Karlis @UI-Brett @UI-JT Please send me a link to the 3.2.5 firmware download. My router reboots itself at least twice an hour since the update. As others have mentioned there is no firmware rollback function when you log into the web GUI on the device.
-
Hi @arfett - I do not believe download links are available for the Alien firmware files yet
They probably need to be sent directly to you and installed via fwupdate.php
You might want to DM @UI-Brett and @UI-JT as well to try and obtain the a previous version, which I think is v3.2.5
Have you considered or tried doing a reset on Alien?
Not ideal, but it may correct whatever is causing it to reboot so frequently

@UI-Karlis @UI-Brett @UI-JT Sorry to make yet another post but your forum is clearly load balanced across various servers and configured poorly because after you edit a post if you keep refreshing the page you will see your old unedited post or your new edited post because edits clearly only write to one of your web servers and do not sync to the others. This has been an issue for at least several weeks.
Anyways please send me a link to the 3.2.5 firmware so I can stop my Alien from rebooting twice an hour with the 3.3.1 firmware.

From the looks of it you have three web servers. I can tell because if I refresh the page (clearing cache with each refresh) repeatedly I see a total of three different versions of my post on this thread from 9 hours ago. You should really fix it so edits sync to all three.

@slcosta @UI-Brett experienced performance issues that I reported on 4/3 directly to support and I was advised to downgrade to 3.2.5 and the performance went back to normal. Severe upstream packet loss from wireless devices.
-
@kane3030 how did you roll back your Alien Router? It's not support via webui or mobile app.
-
@J-Mills Suport instructed me to upload the 3.2.5 firmware into the update field in the web ui for rollback.
-
@kane3030 Thanks, sent a dm.

Is there some reason firmware versions are hidden from users? Is there some reason the firmware versions are hidden from your own support staff at help@amplifi.com? This is absurd.
The Alien rebooting itself constantly (it literally just rebooted itself right now) is impacting my working from home situation greatly. I can't have an unstable internet connection for what I do. There is NO rollback function on the Alien web GUI on the support page. There is only an update option.
Please respond and/or get your support staff the tools they need to help your users.
-
@arfett Rolling back the firmware should be for testing purposes only. If all firmware versions were available to users, then users could opt into an older firmware which could result in a security risk by removing fixes we released.
I can help you roll back your firmware, I will DM you the steps and link to the firmware. Please download a copy of the support info from your system after it reboots for me, so we can try and discover what is happening.
-
@UI-Brett Well I can tell you right now with this crappy line of reasoning I'm going to be reviewing other options and will be selling this thing and never buying another Amplifi product again. Were I to keep this product I guarantee I'd never update the firmware ever again thus never getting any new security fixes you implement because of this flawed approach your company is taking.
I still have no instructions on how to roll back the firmware provided to me which I desperately need right now until I can find another wireless product to purchase tonight. I have to tether my phone to my workstation because at least it's stable but my productivity is severely hampered with the slow speeds.

Hi @arfett - please check your chat messages
Since Alien does not yet have rollback implemented yet ,you need to manually install the firmware files
The support engineers can DM you a link for v3.2.5
Then you can navigate to http://amplifi.lan/fwupdate.php of use the ip address of the router (e.g. http://192.168.1.1/fwupdate.php) if you are in bridge mode
You will need to login with the admin password and then you can select the firmware bin file for installation
