Purpose of LAN Gigabit Ethernet port in Instant Router when used as a mesh point
-
Hi,
I could not find answer so kindly ask for clarification. Let's assume that Instant Router is used as a mesh point over Ethernet backhaul (with HD Router as network "owner"). According to manual the WAN port on Instant Router should be used for backhaul connectivity. In such scenario: does LAN port still work like it was a part of switch so I can attach wired devices to it?
Best regards,
Kuba

@Kuba-Wyrostek the short answer is, yes! or, attach another switch to extend the wired network, etc
-
Thanks! That's good information.

@Kuba-Wyrostek you’re very welcome

I guess the same is true for HD Router working as a mesh point? Except I have the 4-port switch built-in.
-
@Kuba-Wyrostek Yep, indeed. Those additional 4 extra ports can be used accordingly, as simple switch outputs or, to extend your wired connections

Hi @Kuba-Wyrostek - the HD can also support 3x3 MIMO if you have such clients, tri-polarity higher gain antenna for better coverage, faster processor for better throughput, and can potentially be a better replacement router should you ever need it also supporting HW NAT for gigabit speeds and QoS
The Instant is a 2x2 planar antenna with a lower spec processor that doesn’t support some features as noted above
So depending on your needs versus cost and availability right now, the HD can also be a good choice
