Main Alien Slow Speed Test (Hardwired)
-
I have two Amplifi Aliens setup in mesh with the second node connected by ethernet backhaul and a Gigabit connection with Cox. When I run a speed test from the main Alien (on the device screen or in the Amplifi app) I am only able to average a speed of 550Mbps (occasionally up to 602). When I run a speed test on the second node connected by ethernet backhaul from the main Alien to a switch and then onto a node I am able to achieve the full 920-940Mbps. I was wondering why the speeds on my main node seem to be slower than the second node.

@Akash-Thathi What kind of speedtest are you performing: via AmpliFi app? via speedtest.com/fast.com? From which device? Wired/wifi?
-
@Virgil-Nicolae I've run a few. The ISP test in the Amplifi App and the speed test that is on the device screen itself. If I run a fast.com or speedtest.net while wirelessly connected to the main node and standing next to it I usually get around what the ISP test in the app shows (550-600Mbps). If I run the same test while connected to the second node I will usually average around 800-900Mbps.

@Akash-Thathi So, first of all, remember that the speed test that's present within the Amplifi app, is know (by the developers too) not to be accurate. I would suggest that you start narrow down the issue, like this:
- do the speedtest, wired, from ISP router, next from main Alien, second, from the AP (second Alien, which is wired, too, as you mentioned)
- do the speedtest: wifi from main Alien and then from second Aliend (AP). check the speedtest values, do, as well, a ping test (above/wired too) ... check the values ...
Should all those still pose questions, get back in touch, either here or with support (@UI-Brett and @UI-JT have been pretty active)
-
@Virgil-Nicolae I have run the tests that you outlined. The averaged results are as follows:
Wired:
Main Node: 758Mbps (down), 40Mbps (up), 27ms (ping)
Access Point: 753Mbps (down), 39.2Mbps (up), 18ms (ping)
ISP: 843Mbps (down), 41Mbps (up), 7ms (ping)Wireless (approximately 2 inches away from the router):
Main Node: 456Mbps (down), 27Mbps (up), 29ms (ping)
Access Point: 703Mbps (down), 38Mbps (up), 19ms (ping)
-
@Akash-Thathi Most likely, the UI guys will ask you to generate the support files and have those sent to them ... but, let's wait on that ... it is, indeed, looks strange for me ... especially if I look over the ping response times over the wired connections.

I'm following this thread because I'm also having speed issues with the Amplifi Alien router. I have AT&T and pay for Gigabit internet. Through the AT&T router, I get about 350-450 wireless and about 890-975 hardwired. On the Alien router, I get about 375-450 on the standard, 5GHz, 5GHz WiFi 6 band, and any other band that it has available. I am using an iPhone 11 Pro max with the latest OS installed. I have also gone as far as restoring the router and setting it up like new.

Experiencing exactly the same issue @kvelez432
-
@kvelez432 Can you send use a support file?
-
@UI-JT I have, and it's gotten me absolutely nowhere. I've also been emailing back and forth with a rep, and that's even gotten me nowhere....
-
@kvelez432 PM me your ticket info.
-
@UI-JT Will do. What is your email?
-
@kvelez432 if you go on his profile, right side there's a blue button from which you can start a conversation with JT
-
@Virgil-Nicolae thanks! Shortly after I sent that I was able to slide into the DM’s and got a hold of him.
-
@Marcelo-Guerreiro @kvelez432 To my knowledge, ATT will require their equipment to be primary, which means the AmpliFi Alien will need to be placed in bridge mode. Is your device configured in Bridge or a double NAT scenario?
-
@UI-Brett Even if I selected as bridge mode the speeds keeps the same losing every feet away
-
@UI-Brett I have done both the double NAT and bridge mode and still the lackluster speeds continue when I'm maybe 3-5 feet away from the Alien Router.
-
@UI-Brett any solution to my problem in the main post? For some reason the wifi speeds on the main node are significantly slower than those on the secondary node.
-
@Akash-Thathi This is strange, and something I have not seen before so I am not sure, but if possible can you run a speed test in the AmpliFi app, then run a wireless speed test off the primary router, then one off the mesh point (this way all the data is fresh in the support logs.) Then generate a support log using the app or the WebUI and send it to me. You can reference this community post in the email and that will get it assigned to me.

@UI-Brett already generate support file and sent to AMPLIFI,but you guys didn’t solve .So now I paid 360 for a simple hub that I could find anywhere for 50 dollars
Really disappointed
