How do I set router's hostname?
Where do we set the hostname of the router? The default is something like this: AFi-R-HD-3609A8
We need to be able to have clients set their router to their account name. Most routers have a setting in the WAN section that permits this value to be set so that the proper information can be passed to the provider's DHCP server.
Would like to be able to set it to something like: SmithJohn, or Client1234
I don't think there is currently a way to set it.
APP >> General >> Device Name. Don't forget to save.
"APP >> General >> Device Name"
Nope. It still reports the AFi name to the DHCP server as the hostname even after saving and rebooting.
The app shows the new router name, but that is not what's registering as the hostname.
@steven-sugg I'm a potential buyer and this is not good if it is still true you can not change the HOST name.
@steven-sugg registered where? In your dhcp server?
@german-martinez Correct. When a device registers with a DHCP server, it passes it's hostname for easy identification. Currently these devices send a name that starts with AFi and ends with part of the MAC address.
So, the system does have a hostname configured. We need to be able to set it. Every other router we work with permits this, and it's usually on their WAN or internet configuration page. Some routers initially leave the field blank, but all allow you to set it.
Amplifi support has been less than useful on this.
