WiFi Calling On iPhone's
-
Is anyone else out there having issues connecting to WiFi calling using an iPhone 11 or iPhone 11 Pro on an Alien single unit or mesh? I'm having this issues staying connected with it & being in a subpar service area.
-
@Tristan-Baptist I've been having the same issue since Firmware update 3.2.5 it takes almost a minute to connect a call using the AT&T Wi-Fi calling feature. This is really disappointing as it used to work fine with my regular UniFi setup. ISP is Charter Spectrum!
-
@Tristan-Baptist Maybe everyone should include their ISP and cellphone provider to see if we can make any correlations.

@UI-Brett
ISP: Spectrum
Wireless Carrier: Verizon
-
@iwilliamsj are you using the ad blocking feature by any chance?
-
@Tristan-Baptist Yes I have the DNS based ad-blocker turn on but it's not too intrusive as Pi-Hole or NextDNS I have seen so far.
-
@iwilliamsj I thought it was because of this helping create the difficulty but it still gives me issues with it off. Please let @UI-Brett know your ISP & cell provider so he can research it. Hopefully this gets fixed soon... makes working from home a bit hard.

@UI-Brett

@Tristan-Baptist I though of that too and it makes no difference if DNS ad-blocker is on or off. Yes it makes it really difficult to work from home when you calling and receiving a lot of calls a day for work.
-
@iwilliamsj Have you tried placing the phone in airplane mode trying to force it to connect through WiFi? I had slight success but after a long delay. I've sadly dropped out of 2 conference calls yesterday. Hoping they release a beta soon to help this.
-
@Tristan-Baptist Tried but made no difference for me at all. Using a UniFi setup for now until this gets resolved.
-
@iwilliamsj may I ask which one. Maybe it’s time to retire this alien.
-
@Tristan-Baptist I'm using a UDM Pro along with two nanoHD's Access Points I have a one in each floor zero issues now. I think Wi-Fi 6 is great with speed and all, But I prefer the reliability of Wi-Fi 5 as a more mature product for now and for business critical tasks.
-
Similar issues here, I'll miss one call and then the next one will come in just fine. MMS have a hard time coming through, and if they do, it's hours (if not a day) later.
ISP: Spectrum
Carrier: T-MobileMy wife and I both have issues (with have very little to no signal at our house) and we're both on iOS 13.4.1. She has a 6s and I'm on a 11 Pro. DNS Ad Blocker not turned on.
-
@iwilliamsj guess I’ll have to do the same and look into other options. I just had a few important missed calls today. I’ve noticed that it’s also happening on the older iPhones as well too.

Just curious, if you are NOT running Bridge mode, has anyone tried turning on the router level QoS in the web UI (which possibly is SQM based), setting some lower caps like you would in an ER, and seeing if it makes a difference?
Then does it make any different to layer on the device level QoS in the app?
For reference...
- Home ISP: Comcast Xfinity
- Carrier: Xfinity Mobile
- Home Router: Alien in Bridge mode (v3.2.5)
- Remote Router: Alien in PPPoE mode (v3.2.5)
- iPhone SE in Airplane Mode, Cellular Data Off, Roaming Off
Remote Location / Local 5 GHz WiFi = no issues
Router-to-Router Teleport Connection Enabled = no issuesWhen I am back home I still only use WiFi for calling via the Alien and had not run into any issues, but I use Bridge mode so the Alien is only a WiFi access point and Teleport portal
-
@Derek-Saville turning on QoS makes no difference... that might’ve been the first thing I tried.
-
Hi @Tristan-Baptist - what bandwidth limits did you enter into the web UI QoS?
Roughly 85% of your ISP rated speeds?
Did you try any lower as a test?
-
@Derek-Saville I tried 80% & about half of my ISP's gig speed I'm receiving. Like I mentioned to Brett... It worked flawlessly with my old HD units.
-
Hi @Tristan-Baptist - sorry to hear that QoS has no positive impact
Hi @UI-Brett - what is enabling the web UI QoS option supposed to accomplish and are there any recommended guidelines for what to set the bandwidth limits to (i.e. 80% if measured ISP speeds)?
Is there any way to improve WiFi VoIP stability & performance?
