Incorrect password when trying to connect when on my roof but works fine inside
-
So i live on top the top floor of my apartment building, and I have access to the roof. Inside, where my router is, I can connect just fine to my router. But if I go upstairs to my rooftop, I can see my ssid, but when I try to connect it says "Incorrect password" and won't connect. Why would this happen?
-
I can't think of any reason why there would be a password issue based on the physical location when trying to join the network. I know this is probably obvious, but are you sure you're not trying to join a neighbors network by mistake?
-
yeah i thought about that, and turned on the mesh point additional ssid to be sure, and sure enough, i get an incorrect password. Its pretty infuriating because logically, as you said theres just no way this could happen.
-
@Kelvin-Shek Can you send me a support file. I have not seen an issue with authentication based on location before.
-
@UI-JT how do i do this?
-
@Kelvin-Shek Follow the steps here: https://help.amplifi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360033122174-Downloading-Support-Information-
-
so i sent the logs to help@amplifi as in the instructions with a link to this thread, is that sufficient or should i post it here?

Small update, today, i brought my laptop up the roof, and it was able to connect to a meshpoint, i checked and its strength was as 36%. I had my phone right next to my laptop, and it gave me an "Incorrect password" when trying to connect as usual. I wonder if its based more on signal strength/stronger wifi antenna (from my laptop vs my phone)
-
Hi @Kelvin-Shek - not sure if you have tired this or what mobile OS you are using, but on your phone, can you 'forget' the AmpliFi network and try to re-establish a connection from the roof?
-
@Derek-Saville So, I gave that a shot today, and it connected on one part of the roof, but when I moved to another part, it would give me the same "incorrect password" error. I brought my laptop up again and walked around the roof and it was able to connect when my phone was not. Its beginning to make me think either a weak signal, or a weak antenna (on phones) is the culprit. Hoping amplifi can confirm?
-
@Kelvin-Shek Do you have more than one AmpliFi router configured in your mesh network? Or do you have a router provided by your ISP? A modem/router combo?
-
No, i just have the one amplifi router, and one meshpoint. I have a modem provided by my ISP which is directly connected to the amplifi router
-
@Kelvin-Shek Thank you, I just wanted to confirm we didn't have a double NAT with identical SSID's but different passwords. Are you experiencing this will all devices or just one? Gathering support files after you experience this issue would help us try and discover what exactly is happening in your environment.
-
I'm experiencing this mainly with my phone (iphone6) and my wife's phone (iphone x). Its thunderstorming now, but i'll get out there tomorrow morning and try to get support files after i get an incorrect password error

Just an update, I ended up putting the meshpoint on my roof, and it was able to login to the router. On the app, it says the signal strength is -72, but at least i'm able to connect to my network, and access the internet. It just seems like a very odd issue to be having.
