Will the AmpliFi Alien Router be upgradable to wifi 6E?

@UI-JT Thanks
-
@book1 When is the Alien with additional Mesh point going to be available?
-
@book1 what did he say? he deleted the response?
-
@lostinbuffalo10 No it cannot. 6E requires a hardware revision change since the Alien did not ship with that chip/radio inside it.
-
@Tony-Penev Well that sucks. I just bought it and it is already obsolete.
-
@lostinbuffalo10 I doubt this will be obsolete for some time, most phones cannot support 6E yet.
-
@UI-JT Well future proof lasted 2 months. If I would have know that wifi 6 was not really wifi 6 since they don't use the 6GHZ band, I would have held off until Alien received the revision.

6E offers nothing besides more frequencies. 6 and 6E provide the same bandwidth and feature set. If your in a densely populated area then that’s when 6E will assist you in getting out of a congested freq range. Being in a house I’m not too worried. Still a wee annoyed but I mean they are already trying to push WiFi 7 into existence. I can barely find many WiFi 6 devices period.
-
@UI-JT There are literally no 6e devices (clients) on the horizon. Future proof in technology only goes so far or one will never buy anything but 'wait'. I am 'excited' about 6Ghz, but not worried about it. If an "Alien 2" would be out today, it would provide 0 advantage over the "1" without clients.
-
@Daniel-Osers I aggree, while 6E is "cool", its not likely going to start entering the market for some time. WiFi6 still has not reached most client devices, and with WiFi6 supporting gig speeds its not going to be obsolete soon.
-
"Alien 2"...would provide 0 advantage over the "1" without clients.
Hi @Daniel-Osers (& @UI-JT) - one would assume a hypothetical 6E “Alien 2” would still be tri-band (2.4 / 5 / 6 GHz) and in that respect there would be a significant mesh advantage for wireless backhaul, ‘even without (6E) clients’
Just as the Alien “1“ provides advantages even without 802.11ax clients
-
@Tony-Penev What’s the difference between WiFi 6 and 6E? If you don’t mind me asking?
-
-
@Tony-Penev Thanks for the link. I didn’t know it was a new frequency.
-
@Mark-Richards One gives you Corona and the other Seasonal Flu. Sorry, could not resist...

@lostinbuffalo10 all I know is that this Alien is one powerful router! I had a HD with 3 mesh points with 40 online devices and Alien is performing much better.
