Can older devices connect to the 2.4GHz network?

  • I have a pair of original generation Meural Canvases (basically fancy digital frames) that are older and run on 802.11 a/b/g/n and can only connect to a 2.4GHz network. I was looking at the Amplifi Alien because my current router (Portal) is getting a bit tedious and I want to upgrade, but I'm pretty inexperienced with network stuff and had to go through a lot of tech pain just to figure out that my older devices weren't able to connect to its 5GHz network. I see that the Amplifi Alien can run a 2.4GHz network but it's run off Wi-Fi 6? I'm not sure what that is, but would I be able to connect my older devices to it? Thank you for any help and advice!

Yes, the WiFi-6 2.4 will be backwards compatible so your digital photo frames should work. And if they do not favor a dual band network, creating and additional 2.4 ssid for them is quite simple as well.

  • Thank you so much, that helps a lot!
