Is a dedicated back-haul really needed?

I have thought about this. We know the Alien does not have a dedicated back-haul. Was this decision made because of the way wifi 6 is designed to work? In theory it should be able to handle the traffic, thus not wasting a whole radio just for a back-haul that other manufactures are sticking with??
