Speed Test Discrepancy
-
When I run a speed test on my Alien screen, it shows my Gigabit internet download speed as 95 Mb. However, when I run the speed test using the Alien app on my iPhone, it shows 558 Mb. Why is there such a discrepancy?
-
@IdahoPoes This is a known issue we are workin on resolving, thanks.
-
@UI-JT I’m getting a Speed test failed message tonight with my Alien. Everything else working fine. Resetting to factory defaults doesn’t fix the issue So I assume the problem lies elsewhere. Any ideas?
-
@Richard1864 Possibly an outage, is it failing on the router screen or on the app?
-
@UI-JT apparently it was an outage. It’s working now. I posted another question in the Alien>FAQ Section asking how much RAM is in the Alien router and haven’t gotten an answer yet. The information isn’t available anywhere online. Just curious Do you know?

Hello,
I’m having the same issue now both on Alien screen and the app. However all functions seem normal.
Speedtest app shows the system to be ok but alien Speedtest is not working.
Any ideas ??

@Simon-Goring Seeing the same when running a speed test in the app or directly on the router. Everything else seems to be functioning fine.

@Simon-Goring
Same here. Suddenly started this evening.

@UI-JT
Any solution for the speed test failing yet? It happens on the router screen as well as the app. Also not possible to change QOS setting in web UI. Thanks.
-
@UI-JT
Thanks, everything working again since 7am.
-
@UI-JT Confirmed on my end as well that the speed test now works in the app and directly on the router.
-
@heyarnoldmbj Thank you for sharing this.
-
@heyarnoldmbj Yes, but the speed test on the Alien screen is still not reporting the correct speed on download. I have 1 Gb service and the on-screen speed test shows my download as 98 Mb. The App shows the correct download speed.
-
@IdahoPoes Hmm, interesting. When running the speed test on my router’s screen it’s on par with the speeds I usually get.
-
@IdahoPoes try rebooting your cable modem/gateway with your Alien(s) powered down, and after the modem/gateway is finished booting, power up the Alien(s) again. That seems to help things for me.
-
Tried that but no help. A Ubiquiti engineer said they are aware of the problem and are working on it. I'm confident they'll get it figured out soon.
-
Is this still an issue? My router test maxes out at 500 but a pc wired to the router tests at 980/1000 using speedtest.net.
-
@Adam-Wislocki yes for some users this issue persists.
-
@UI-AmpliFi Adam, my original post that started this thread is fixed. I can now run the speed test on the Alien screen and it reports correctly.

I just got two new Alien routers and the speed test feature is not accurate at all. I get 920-940up with 42 down on LAN and 550-650 on WIFI with 40 down. The router app is stuck at 400up and 40 down no matter what. Reset, reboot, reset the ISP modem will not go above 400 up and 40 down. I do hope they can fix this at some point.
