WiFi Clients Speed Test
-
I would like to see an option where instead of viewing just the theoretical speeds of each client's WiFi connection, it would be nice to be able to do a speed test to each connected client, both individually or all at once. This would be helpful in finding weak links in your home network setup.

Similar thought here. With Speedtest, instead of testing the speed to a server somewhere on the internet, I am much more interested to know the Speed of my WiFi from my devices to my router.

Hi @K-Sec - that is somewhat built into the latest Alien firmware and AmpliFi app:
https://community.amplifi.com/topic/3299/how-to-access-local-wifi-testIt only works for clients that can actually run the app, so you cannot test every client, but it's a start...

Personally, speedtest is very deceiving. It chooses based on lowest latency but that might be a sight with shaping or policing is enabled.
I'd recommend IPerf3 for testing stats.
I am a core design network engineer for an ISP, and sometimes speedtest points you accross the country.

I’d like to see more options for where it connects to. Speedtest.net has a local connection to us and I get much more accurate speeds there. The Alien Speedtest routes me hundreds of miles away and the speeds are about half what they should be and the ping is 21-22 instead of 1-2, which is what I get on the closer option at speedtest.net.
-
@raeyn Thank you for the input, we are working to add more points to test from so we can get more accurate results.
-
@UI-AmpliFi Thanks so much for letting me know! That’s brilliant news.
Currently, they route my speedtest to another country.
(No, seriously, they do!). It’ll be great to have more points of connection for the tests to be more accurate. Thanks again!
-
@raeyn What country is it routing to? That probably is not giving you very accurate results, thank you for the information!

@UI-AmpliFi Canada. Hardly the other side of the world from the US, but still.
It explains why I’m getting pings of 21-22 (instead of 1-2 from Speedtest.net) and also half the up/down speeds I get from that site as well.
