amplifi alien to australia
-
@barryjb no i didnt
-
@Ahmad-Ki do you think it would work in Australia?
-
@barryjb no dont buy it
-
@barryjb Cannot see why the international (EU) version shouldn't as I think the WiFi regs are fairly similar to us here in the UK from what I have read.

amplifi alien released for australia
it looks like triband like usa

@Ahmad-Ki Is this not just an import from US?
-
no this is scortpec the australian reseller
-
Hi @Ali-Hadi - they are listed with the same product ID as the North America models (US and Canada), and the compliance is also only currently listed for the US and Canada, so it is probably the same device
Canada and Australia share the same "Indoor Only" use requirement for the lower part of the 5.2 GHz band and the same channels on the upper 5.8 GHz band, so the product should functionally be the same as implemented for Canada, which is why it didn't make sense not to release the Australia model at the same time other than obtaining certification during COVID
-
If the Australian version is dual band
I will not buy it
They are charging 600 AUD and giving you less and dual band
But the reseller in the link is saying triband
We need a confirmation on this
If its dual band i will not buy it and look somewhere else
We have been waiting from November 2019 for it
And now they stuffed up the router hardware and made it dual band
This is ridiculous and dodgy
It took them over a year or more and wifi 6e routers already released from tplink and asus
-
Hi @Ahmad-Ki - it appears to be the North America model hardware with 3 available bands and radios...
- 2.4 GHz 802.11ax (WiFi-6)
- 5.2 GHz 802.11ac (Additional 5 GHz WiFi-5 Radio option)
- 5.8 GHz 902.11ax (WiFi-6)
This would make some sense since Australia essentially shares the same non-DFS channel requirements as Canada
802.11ax WiFi-6 will only operate on the 2.4 GHz & 5.8 GHz bands, and as of the latest firmware, there is still no way to manually select the 5.8 GHz channel
So it isn't "Tri-Band WiFi-6" and never has been...more like a "Dual Band WiFi-6 + Single Band WiFi-5" with some very specific limitations on channel selections that a lot of us are hoping will be improved in a future firmware release
-
okay we wanna confirm now ! is this australian version is ax8000 or ax6000 like europe ?
-
Hi @Ahmad-Ki - the scrorptec website has replicated the North America model spec page, so if you primarily care about 5 GHz 802.11ax, it is only capable of 4800 Mbps utilizing 8 streams on 80 MHz channel widths (600 Mbps per stream x 8 streams)
So a single 2x2 MIMO client has a maximum throughput of 1200 Mbps on 802.11ax
Watch out for the “Supported Dara Rate” section, as they publish potential rates from across all of the radios, so it is mix-n-match
For example they are showing 802.11ac as 1733 + 3466 as that is 12 total streams from both the WiFi-5 radio (4x4) plus the WiFi-6 radio (8x8) in backward compatibility 802.11ac mode
-
so scorptec is selling same as usa first one released in november 2019 certified for australia not the european one
-
if you go to https://amplifi.com/alien
amplifi stopped advertising it as triband and now is dual band
in the beginning the router was 7685Mbps
now they changed it on the official website and they put euro pricing instead of usa dollars
and now the amplifi alien router is dual band 5952 Mbps
it looks like they dumped the triband idea in general
-
@Ahmad-Ki I see tri-band on the page and my Aliens broadcast in 3 bands.
-
Did you buy it from scorptec?
-
ye amplifi alien released for australia
3 resellers selling it and shipment start 2 February 2021
the resellers are : wireless1 , scorptec and pc case gear
-
Releasing for us in New Zealand on 26th February too through PB Tech. Product specs also list it as the US version.
If we’re getting the North American version and not the European version there must be a firmware update coming that allows you to select countries other than the US or Canada when setting it up?
-
everyone is saying they cant choose australian version when they set it up in the app
i wont buy it till they update the app and add australia region
how did they release it in australia and they didnt update the app for it ??????????????????
-
Seriously?!
I’m hype for it, but now I’m starting to wonder if I should bite the bullet and get a UDM and some wifi6 APs
