AmpliFi HD Firmware v3.4.2

@Andrew-Turley My two cents. That's a rather down-rev switch (10/100 vs Gb). That said, here's a few magical ideas. Don't use the two outermost ports on the switch. Double-check the ethernet cables to make sure they are at least 5e rated. Also check cables to see of any had become kinked, or routed in parallel with power cords. If possible, borrow a Gb switch and test with it. Or if that's not possible, the next time the wired ports drop off, don't disconnect from the Amplifi, rather turn off the switch then turn it back on and see if that solves the issue.
-
@Matthew-Leeds - yeh, i didn't think i needed anything overly complex or fancy, and when it's all working i have no issues with streaming or anything. I'll replug everything into the middle of the switch and see what happens. the switch sits in a wall box with a bunch of other things including power supplies and a multi-plug so if that's a possible issue, i'm not sure there's much i can do about it! But otherwise I might look at getting a better quality switch, like the ubiquiti one, or something similar?
-
@Andrew-Turley I've had good luck with the NetGear line. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07S98YLHM/?coliid=I3FEN0QOW89OY5 might be a suitable choice given the number of ports in use, or go to the 8 port if you might need expansion. I like the metal case and the fact that replacement power supplies are always available.

@UI-AmpliFi
I guess I found the the faulty one.
It was the one with Hardware-ID 1.
System running fine since two weeks.Is there a chance to rescue this unit or do I have to throw it away?

Ever since updating to 3.4.2 we've been struggling with wi-fi instability issues. Our household has a mixture of Apple devices, PCs and Android devices. The problem has been particularly severe with the Apple devices - there are times when my partner cannot connect a Mac to the internet via wi-fi, but I have no problems on my PC. My android phone seems to be the least affected by problems.
Another persistent issue that has occurred since the update is that my PC now has trouble finding wi-fi printers. Never had this problem before the update.So, I plan to try rolling back to 3.4.1 unless anybody has suggestions...
-
@Doug-Fillmore I would also roll back in your situation. I did it and have been stable on 3.4.1. Just not worth the frustration to try and make it work on 3.4.2

I have 100/100. If I run cable directly to fiber modem i get about 95/95 or so. If i run it by Amplifi HD i get 95/10-12. Same speed if i test by Wifi client or cable. I have tried all new cables, NAT or no NAT activated. Every single ethernet port directly to my PC with same results. Does anyone have problem with upload speeds like this? Running latest 3.4.2 and even tried a roll back with same results.
-
@Andrew-Turley - Just to follow up, I bought a better quality netgear gigabit switch, plugged that all in and everything has been working perfectly since. So it looks like all my woes were the switch, not the firmware updates! lesson learned...
-
@Andrew-Turley Glad to see you found the problem. What you found is something that has been found by other users when there are older products in the mix. Things like that make troubleshooting much more difficult. It is easy to focus on the most recent update when it actually could be that the update finally exposed a weakness in another product in the networking string.
-
@fastback69 I think I have the same or similar problem.
-
@Andrew-Turley Good choice and glad you solved it.

In my case, the latest firmware, I have cuts in the wifi part.
Something very strange, same distance, different frequency, mikrotik has much better signal than AmplifiHD when before Amplifi had about 10dBm less than Mikrotik, now I have much less coverage than before. The mikrotik is an Hap Ac2 - 75€ vs 170€, I'm not happy at all.
-
I've just updated to 3.4.2 from 3.1.2. Will feedback on this update in a few days.

Not that comfortable with their approach to security. https://www.cvedetails.com/vulnerability-list/vendor_id-12508/product_id-23641/Mikrotik-Routeros.html

@Matthew-Leeds
I prefer ubiquiti to Mikrotik in Wifi, but Mikrotik is light years away in routing, in this case I use Mikrotik's wifi because the Ubiquiti Amplifi does not work as it should, that is, well, without cuts, with little coverage ..

I think the current firmware incorporates AI. Working great until an important meeting comes up and - boom - Network cannot be found or it slows to an unusable pace.
A couple of years ago when I first got it I never thought about it, it just worked.
Who care about the bells and whistles and there is no air to carry the sound.
-
@Marius-Kemp I finally did the roll back to 3.4.1 about a week ago and it seems to have resolved all the issues. No problems with wifi stability, connecting to wireless printers, etc. Next time I won't install an update simply because it's there - I'll hold off and see the feedback from others...

"So next time stop being so rude."
"Just calm down"Your hypocrisy is rather nauseating. You should read what/how you wrote before criticizing how people respond to you.

@Kit-Yeo I just wanted to update that everything works fine after 1 month of usage on 3.4.2.
