AmpliFi Alien Firmware v3.4.1
-
I have now put all my roku and firestick devices on the additional 5GHz radio, most of my hidden networks have gone with it. Each Alien does still broadcast it's own, I'm sure to communicate with each other. wifi5 performs better than wifi6, but I guess its because of channel selection or lack there of. Hopefully this will change soon.!

How slow is this rolling out? It is still not available for me. Was it pulled / paused because of the issues reported here?
-
@David-Mulcahey-0 Firmware is still rolling out, if you have not seen the update try a reboot or enabling beta firmware then disabling it.
-
@UI-AmpliFi will give it a shot. Thanks
-
@UI-AmpliFi I had the same issue; i tried enabling beta and rebooting, but the app still tells me it's on the latest (i'm on 3.4.0). It's rather bizarre to see a new version released, and yet not have access to it 9 days later--is this normal?
-
...yet not have access to it 9 days later--is this normal?
Hi @Masashi-Ito - no, it is normally 100% rolled out in 7 days
Alien v3.4.1 is not not at 100% yet because a small case of some users reported a reduction in speed and AmpliFi wanted to investigate further before resuming the release, so it is still in progress
-
@Derek-Saville so there may be another small firmware update to fix those issues?
-
Hi @Richard1864 - I was told by AmpliFi that the issue was investigated and the cause determined to be unrelated to the Alien's firmware
The roll out was then resumed, but the length of the pause was not communicated, so I do not know how long the delay will be for the units that have not received the update notification yet
I have 3 Alien sites that are not on beta that use Teleport, and only one has been notified of the update
I have had issues in the past with R2R not working well across different firmware revisions, so I prefer to upgrade them all at once, and I tend to avoid the beta toggle trick on units that are important for daily activity
-
@Derek-Saville I never knew about using the beta toggle to get the firmware updates before. It’s totally new to me, and apparently quite a few other Alien users. AMPLIFI doesn’t mention it anywhere on their site either.
-
Hi @Richard1864 - I am referring to skipping the queue as described by @UI-AmpliFi here...
https://community.amplifi.com/topic/3582/firmware-update/2
If you ever want to "Skip" the line and update on day one, you can use the WebUI and enroll in beta firmware. The last beta release is converted directly into the public release, so by enrolling in beta you are essentially updating to the public release. If you do not want to test beta firmware, be sure to only enable this feature once a public firmware has been released, and disable the option once you have updated
-
@Derek-Saville that’s how I found out about it. Never saw it anywhere else.
-
They must have pulled, or paused this version of firmware as I still am not getting it after a reboot.
-
Hi @Lawliet-Keffor - the 3 outages of the AmpliFi Cloud last week may also have interrupted the roll out and hopefully @UI-AmpliFi will comment on the current status
-
So, I don't believe many positive reports make it to these discussions, but I thought it important to point out the improvements I have seen with v3.4.1:
- SteelSeries Arctis 9X Wireless Headset no longer exhibiting crackling noises from wireless interference!
- Anyone else have the same improvement? Didn't see this reported anywhere previously, but it was definitely annoying.
- Can someone from Ubiquiti explain why this might have improved? Better channel selection or lower antenna gain?
- Download speeds went from averaging 600+Mbps to 700+Mbps in same location on iPhone 11 Pro
Overall, this has only improved conditions for me personally. Not sure why others are getting low speeds.

-
@Derek-Saville is there a website we can go to to check the status of the Ubiquiti cloud services? How did you learn about the outages?
-
Is the rollout still paused or is it ongoing again?
-
Hi @Richard1864 - the status page can be found here... https://status.ui.com/
The same backend cloud services both AmpliFi and UniFi Protect and those guys are not happy... https://community.ui.com/questions/UniFi-Protect-cloud-access-outage-on-August-25/080d2a50-7baa-4ce7-ae1f-95e14ceaf4ca

@UI-AmpliFi What programming languages is the Amplifi Alien Router and it's firmware programmed in? My guess would be Java like Google Android OS uses and C++ like mac os maybe does anyone on here know the answer does it use any HTML5 CSS3 and Javascript?
-
@UI-AmpliFi any update on the rollout of the firmware?
-
@David-Mulcahey-0 We are still rolling out the firmware, but have paused it to research an issue that was reported after the initial launch that was not found during beta testing. We will update the thread once it has been resumed, and if you would like to force the update, you can enable beta firmware in the WebUI.
