Bridge mode + Ethernet backhaul: WAN port only?
-
Hi,
I tried to find the answer to this and I'm reading conflicting answers across the internet.I have my ISP modem connected to an EdgeRouter-X and need to add mesh Wi-Fi to it.
I was thinking to add a bunch of AmpliFi HD or AmpliFi Instants to it across my house via Ethernet, but only have one cable connecting each room to the cabinet, and don't want to waste an AmpliFi in the cabinet. Can I connect routers to the EdgeRouter-X via their WAN port, set them to bridge mode, and create a mesh?
So, to be clear, I'd like to avoid using the LAN ports from my "master" AmpliFi router to connect the other APs, I'd like to use the WAN port itself.
ISP --- eth0 - EdgeRouter-X - eth1 --- WAN - AmpliFi HD 1 (master) - eth2 --- WAN - AmpliFi HD 2 - eth3 --- WAN - AmpliFi HD 3
Is this possible?
Thanks!

AFAIK, I don't think that's possible, it has to be wired to the main "base station"

@Raghu-Kannan the only reason why I thought it might be possible is because with bridged mode both the WAN and all the LAN ports are on one single subnet... Is this something you've tried by any chance?

No I haven't unfortunately. It was something I remembered reading multiple times on this forum (can't seem to find the links, maybe @UI-AmpliFi could explain)

@Niccolò-Zapponi here's the article, check the notes section....

@Raghu-Kannan This is correct they must be connected via the main router even in bridge mode.
