At this point, let us Alien users downgrade Firmware
-
I think we can all agree here prior to 3.4.1, us Alien users were all doing fine. Most of us were hoping 3.4.1 would add some features but the change log only showed stability improvements.
3.4.0 was perfectly stable IMO and updating (per change log) to 3.4.1 should’ve seemed like fine tuning to an already stable network. At least that’s what I thought.
Now, for the users that were able to update in the short window that 3.4.1 was made available to the public; are stuck with instability and unneeded workarounds to have some sort of normal performance.
Latest beta is also not looking so good (I’m holding off as the comments in the beta thread are not too promising).
So what do you say? Allow us to downgrade firmware like the rest of Amplifi’s line.

Hi @Jason-May - in the beta thread...
https://community.amplifi.com/topic/3779/alien-firmware-3-4-3rc0/49
... @René-Guitar mentioned having the option to roll back firmware
So the feature might be in the next release and maybe @René-Guitar can confirm
-
@Derek-Saville If you install the latest beta (3.4.3rc0), once you uncheck the beta from the web ui, you’ll be presented with the last production release (3.4.0 or 3.4.1).
I don’t see any rollback option like I had on my HD unit, it just a « trick » to be back on the latest production release.
If you want another version, simply ask Amplifi, they will send it to you.
-
@René-Guitar thank you for confirming this. I will have to check this out later tonight when I have some downtime and when my family’s asleep.
-
Hi @René-Guitar - thank you for that feedback
I believe what @Jason-May is looking for is the Firmware Rollback feature for non-beta releases
But it is good to know that opting out of the beta program gives you the option of a rollback
I have some non-critical Alien units on beta for testing and have never taken them off the program before
Seems like they could implement the standard Rollback feature pretty easily then
-
@Derek-Saville right on the button. Amplfi states in their online manual that downgrading is not an option for AMPLIFI Alien and Teleport hardware. If the work around to downgrading is through “another workaround” by going through the beta firmware, then my first statement still stands- users have to resort to workarounds in order to have stability.
-
@Derek-Saville that’s my understanding as well. If Amplifi was able to do it in the HD models, it is doable for the Alien. Why was this feature not kept on the Alien line? I have no clue. Maybe we should add this in the features request thread?
-
@Jason-May no prob, I just realize that my maintenance window is the same as yours
-
Hi @Jason-May - FWIW manually installing older firmware releases is pretty straightforward and my preferred method of rolling back
But as @René-Guitar mentioned, you need to request the files from AmpliFi which can be a hassle and frustrating if you are in an urgent situation
-
Thank God I had the 3.4.0 saved from Amplifi support 2 month ago. Rolled back from Beta and I won't even look back till the next official release (maybe).
-
Update to everyone- managed to obtain firmware 3.4.0 via Amplifi app chat through Pearl B (Pearl you’re awesome thank you).
-
@René-Guitar My hope is this feature is never needed because the Firmware works well. However that has not been the case for all users, manual downgrades are pretty simple, please reach out if you need firmware.
-
@UI-AmpliFi yes, please
Thanks.
-
@Jason-May YES. Let us rollback. I can’t even get an internet connection with the latest update. I would love to be able to roll back. Support hasn’t figured out what the issue is.
-
@niffer at this point if support cannot figure out your issue with your router, I would suggest another online chat and obtaining the 3.4.0 firmware mentioning that you’ve already did some troubleshooting with a previous rep (they can look up your chat logs tied to your UI account). Wish you luck buddy and let us know how it goes.
