Ping Reply on Firewall Fails GRC (ShieldsUp) Tests

  • Please allow the ability to turn off Ping Reply within the device.

Ping Reply: RECEIVED (FAILED) — Your system REPLIED to our Ping (ICMP Echo) requests, making it visible on the Internet. Most personal firewalls can be configured to block, drop, and ignore such ping requests in order to better hide systems from hackers. This is highly recommended since "Ping" is among the oldest and most common methods used to locate systems prior to further exploitation.

  • @Jerry-Griffin Perhaps that's from your gateway/modem and not the Amplifi device?

  • @Matthew-Leeds Thanks for the reply.

    The Amplify is the gw.
If I replace the Amplify with my old Apple Airport Extreme it passes the GRC test.
And if I also use an old Cisco FW this also passes. I don't use the Apple as it is not being kept up and is EOL. The ASA is only 100Mb and is also EOL.
    Thanks.

  • @Jerry-Griffin For my clarity, your ISP delivers an Ethernet connection that you connect directly to the WAN port of your Amplifi with no other ISP equipment in the mix? How does your Amplifi get it's public IP address?
