Workaround for AmpliFi Alien and OpenVPN?

I understand that the Amplifi Alien wifi router (AA) does not support client openVPN. Can a turn my AA to be just the Wifi portion of my LAN and feed it to a router that supports openVPN that then connects to my cable modem?
