AmpliFi Alien Firmware v3.6.0
-
My issue with this release is that it seems most devices are defaulting to 2.4ghz and not 5ghz.
-
@Racerprose Did you turn on the "Additional 5Ghz radio" option in the app? It seems that it is mandatory to turn it on in order to let the devices which don't support Wi-Fi 6 connect to 5Ghz with 160Hz bandwidth. Just give it a try. It works for me.

Is there an easy way to tell if I'm connected on 160MHz channel?
-
is anyone else having incorrect download speeds when doing a speed test in the app and on the Alien itself? I cannot get anything over 300Mbps and the app reports that it’s limited by my service provider. I know that’s not true since my wired AppleTV gets just under 1Gbps, and on my iPhone 12 mini I easily get over ~700Mbps with both WiFiman & Ookla speedtest apps.

@Vincent-Ngo Yes, you can. The following are the different types of solution according to the devices you are using:
For Android device:
Download app "WiFiman" by Ubiquiti Inc. and you will be able to view the info at the Wireless page. For Windows device:
inSSIDer (freeware)
https://www.metageek.com/products/inssider/WifiInfoView (freeware)
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wifi_information_view.htmlFor Mac device:
Wi-Fi Scanner (10-day free trail)
https://lizardsystems.com/wi-fi-scanner/And I am sorry to tell you there is no app for now to tell you which bandwidth connected for iOS or PadOS devices. However, the AirPort app would show you only the RSSI strength and channel of the Wi-Fi devices nearby.

@ileonhsiao Awesome!! Thanks so much!
So it looks like it's 80MHz due to the radar being detected? Aww man. That sucks.
Radar was detected on the previously selected channel. Now using fallback channel 149, bandwidth 80 MHz.

Hi, my router is stuck on the "checking channel availability" screen and never completes booting. My wireless devices can't connect due to an authentication error and my hardwired devices get me into the web ux for about 30 seconds before becoming non-responsive. I tried flashing a previous firmware but the update didn't complete. Has anyone else run across this?

I did a factory reset with 3.6.0
Only my MacBook connected I did a Speedtest, I was getting 800+Mb/s down from server A over wifi 6
I did 10 different Speedtest and averaged the result
I then went back to 3.5.2 and did a factory reset again, I was getting 905Mb/s down from the same server A and that was the average over 10 different test
The difference between timing was up to around 5 minutes
So I went back to 3.6.0 and again the average was 800+Mb/s
Looking at the CPU monitor. it seem to average 1-3% in idle on 3.5.2
with 3.6.0 it was spiking up to 9%

After combing thru the comments, took a gamble and updated anyway. Update went smoothly. WiFi6 showing on my iPhone SE again (before the update, for some reason it was running as WiFi5). Doing speed tests now, my download speeds are unchanged. Temperature 140ºF, CPU 2% idling, memory 38%. So far, everything is hunky dory. I'll come back if anything chages.

How often does it check again for 160MHz once radar is detected and it goes to 80MHz?
-
@Gary-Sing I agree it is slightly slower, but overall it is running ok. Hopefully they will optimize back to speeds 3 releases ago.
-
don't use 802.11r in the webui, it breaks internet connectivity for some wifi devices (my 12 inch macbook suffers from this).. it worked great with firmware 3.5.2, support file sent
-
@dexx64 This is pretty known. Even when you try to turn that feature on a pop up warns you it may happen. Its an Apple issue.
-
@Racerprose read....
it worked fine on firmware 3.5.2 with all the standards enabled (802.11K/V/R)
-
@Vincent-Ngo on macOS, click on the Wi-Fi icon while holding the Alt key.
-
@Vincent-Ngo DFS is not related to channel width, it's related to the presence of a radar ON a specific channel.
-
@Racerprose that's probably because once you reboot the Amplifi it takes 30 seconds for the 5Ghz radio to come up due to DFS. While that happens, clients will associate with the 2.4Ghz radio. Try re-associating after the 5Ghz is ready (use the web UI to check).

Everything is working smoothly with this update, however my mesh'd Alien access point is reporting a slight decrease in signal strength on 5Ghz, regardless of the channel I use. I used to get -51db, now I am seeing -65db. The access point has not moved. Why is this?
