Activate the USB port in the router to be used as a NAS
-
I would like to connect a USB external hard drive to the USB port on the back of the amplifi router
I was told many months ago that this feature was on the works... Any update?
-
...or even as a print server
-
How about Apple Time Machine support? Add an External HD, and boom you have a destination for Apple backups.
-
I would also like to see the USB port activated. I have a USB drive active on my existing setup that I use for backup and file sharing. Not wanting to give this up is preventing me from moving to an amplifi solution.

It's probably the one feature I am looking forward to the most. At the moment my external drive is attached to a PC which has to be on for other devices to access it. Being able to connect it to the router would hugely benefit me.
-
I miss this feature from my old router very much. A remote hard drive would be great. The ability to designate as a Time Machine be Jupiter would be even better.
-
It's also the reason I went with this product over Google WIFI. Bit disappointed it's taken so long.
-
@brian-pavane That will be really nice!!!!

Well i just spoke to tech support and still no support for the USB. I even connected my HDD with an ethernet port, AMPLIFI recognizes it but it seems thats it. I wonder how long we will need to wait to get HDD support?
-
@guts-o - Though I'm unsure, I am certainly hopeful. This would allow me to ditch some hardware that's behind my wonderful AMPLIFI!

Is there anyone from AMPLIFI that reads these comments? Itâs shamef that we should have to wait this long without any indication that the USB port will ever become useful. Shouldâve considered getting some other mesh router. There are so me good mesh and regular routers out there.

Everyone here should begin a new thread under âNew and Upcoming â that asks âWhen exactly will the USB port become active?â If they see only one headline asking they might notice but if they see a whole bunch like 20-25 all asking the same thing the Should notice and comment

I see that people want to use the USB for their NAS device?. I have mine connected via one of the ethernet ports and it works brilliantly and a lot faster than USB ever would.

@tim-sparling-0
Hi There ,Can you explane to me (and maybe others) how you connect a usb via one of the ethernet ports
thanksâŚ
-
@juan-carlos-quan This doesn't have to be exclusive to an external hard drive, it could be multi purpose, just as my old Asus Dark Knight was able to use it's usb port as an external hard drive (NAS) or more importantly, as a port for a usb modem port in case of internet failure. THIS would be the most ideal use of this port, as it's main function supports internet as a backup!

@marco-berendse I am going to try this and update to this thread. I don't know if this will work yet and reviews aren't real favorable lol. https://www.amazon.com/Insten-Female-Ethernet-Router-Adapter/dp/B00AF1PHZC
I still want the usb port to work as its a physical port we can't use and seems silly but for a work around maybe this will work
-
@andrew-holybee Just by an normal ethernet-cable. it's cheaper than two of these adapters and a usb a<>a cable.
-
Not usable and according to an Amplifi Support Engineer a few months ago it is not on the list to implemented anytime soon.

@daniel-la-porta @Steve-Strong-0 @Lucian-Oniscu Activating the USB port on the AmpliFi HD is something we will not be doing at this time and is not on the list of future changes. There has been some confusion around this in the past, I am sorry for the confusion.

@michael-naumann I have all laptops and mobile devices at my house with a bunch of USB hard drives I already have if this doesn't work I will probably just use my raspberry pi to be a NAS with the drives I already have. If i have to admit defeat i will pony up the cash for a synology NAS.
