AmpliFi Alien Firmware v3.6.2
-
AmpliFi Alien firmware version 3.6.2 has been released.
Release notes:- Improved Wi-Fi stability
- Updated LCD icons database
- Other minor improvements
We use a gradual rollout for the update. It may take up to a week for your device to receive this update.
-
Update went smoothly from RC1
Ik have seen with release v3.6.1 that someone mentioned that after installing v3.6.1. the build in speedtest gave a lower max rate then what it should be. After coldboot the Alien the speed was again what it should be.In V3.6.2 RC1 i saw the same problem
And now in V3.6.2 also.
So my advise after installing the new fw pull the plug.

Updated, wich was very smooth from RC1.

@UI-AmpliFi one week is too long for some of us that work from home. Is there a way to expedite?
-
Hi @UI-AmpliFi - can you please post stable v3.6.1 to the previously released firmware thread?
-
Hi @coldplay5467 - you can jump the queue by opting in to receive beta updates in the web UI and then opting back out
-
Nice to see updates, but my unit is brand new, still testing stability, have needed no reboots on 3.6.1 so I'm going to wait and see how others make out.
-
@Pistole thanks for posting this. I saw this issue as well. I definitely see a difference now. I’ll have to remember to do this after an update.
-
I am a new alien mesh user; do I have to do anything to install the update, or does it do it all on its own? I saw the post about power down everything after its installed, and restart, just not sure if I have to do anything to initiate the update..
love this system so far, getting wifi speeds around 940 everywhere in my house with a 1 gig Cox connection
thanks

@michael-wasserman When loaded to your Alien, you will see a prompt on your main Alien screen indicating an update is available. When your ready, (no one is using the WiFi), you can progress the update pressing the button. It will be a couple minutes and your devices should start to re-connect to your Aliens. You can also update from web or phone app ... main router is easiest.
I updated from the 3.6.2RC1 beta and it was quick and easy with no issues. I didn't do the power cycle, (cold reboot). Sometimes it is a benefit to the units.

@jbenja6460
thanks, does it make sense to join the beta group, or are the beta releases kind of dodgy at times?
-
@michael-wasserman I've had no problems with most beta's, there has been at least one that was a problem that Ui took down to correct. I stall for a couple hours to let the brave ones go first.
Usually, folks join if they are seeking solutions to their problems or like to have the latest.
If your not having any problems and want to get the latest stable update sooner, you can enable the beta, get you update and turn it off.
-
@jbenja6460 well, we all like to have the latest, and obviously stable is always "supposed" to be better
thanks for the info!

Updated Alien with ~72 devices from 3.6.1. Everything went smooth and seems to be working great so far.
Side note: the team deserves major kudos for the Teleport router-to-router functionality too. Absolutely rock solid and seamless.
-
Updated to 3.6.2 today and I am still seeing iOS drop the wifi when switching from primary AP to a mesh point, however iOS is now picking up the mesh point wifi regardless and will stay connected. I am just seeing a brief swap to LTE/5G before switching to the mesh point. 3.6.0 firmware did not have this issue, however I can tolerate it because it will reconnect just fine to the mesh.

I downgraded to 3.6.0 from 3.6.1 due to Wi-Fi disconnects with my iOS devices. In the Amplifi app on my iPhone and iPad, it says new updates are available and shows the update as 3.6.1. Do I have to upgrade to 3.6.1 first or will the update eventually show 3.6.2?
-
@harryks Sure you can wait 3.6.2 I recommend
-
So I decided after running 3.6.2 for a few days to re-add 1 out of 2 HomePod minis back into my home environment.
I connected the mini to the Mac and clean restored it to 15.0
So far so good no issues with any apple device with 3.6.2
Finger crossed
That said I'm no rush to re-add the 2nd HomePod mini and stereo pair them.
-
@cmdshft I tested extensively on both 3.6.1 and 3.6.2. While I didn’t get any permanent disconnections, I did get this behaviour of on both firmware versions.
-
Installed on both my routers in mesh this morning. Now I wait. I have no more Apple devices though, we got rid of them all.
