Large bandwidth usage crushes the rest of the network
-
My Macbook is connected to the Mesh Router. 84% signal.
I am downloading some updates from the Apple App Store. I peaked at around 30Mb/s and then the router dropped down to about 1.40Mb/s - 1.20Mb/s. During this time, others started complaining that their wifi had dropped out and/or their internet was non-responsive.
I went to look at the Amplifi app on my iPhone and I am greeted with the "Unable to locate device" screen, yet my Macbook is still connected to the wifi and I'm downloading at around 1.40Mb/s. The app cannot find the Mesh Router.
Once I quit the App Store and disconnected my Wifi, then I could see the Mesh Router again and the Wifi came back up for others.
It seems as though I was crushing the entire network or I clipped some threshold and it capped me.
Anyone seen this or had this problem?
Update: For testing purposes, I plugged in my old Netgear WNDR4500 into an ethernet port on the Mesh Router and connected to that Wifi AP, and I have been successfully downloading at around 15Mb/s - 20Mb/s without interfering with my original wireless network (even though I'm routing the bandwidth through the Mesh Router) and I can see the app just fine on the iPhone - in fact, I can witness the performance tab showing the speeds. Looks like the wireless had a major problem with that throughput.
Update 2: When I run a speedtest (speedtest.net) still connected to the new wireless network - as soon as I start the speedtest, the app drops and cannot find the mesh router. Something screwy going on here...

@Karl-Stanton, @Lu-Yip: Hi! This looks like a firmware problem. Can you confirm it happens when the client is connected to a mesh point?
-
@ubnt-gunars
Hi, I have seen the same here and I can confirm that devices are connected to the main router.Stefan
-
@UBNT-Gunars Router and mesh points... the whole network goes down
-
@ubnt-gunars it will be nice if you can send me the beta firmware to test on my router and mesh see if problem is fixed cause i only have till the 25th to return them i would like to give it a last try before returning it
-
@lu-yip It's worth a shot. @UBNT-Chance, can you add him to the beta list?
-
@ubnt-gunars I'd love access to beta as well, if possible.
-
@karl-stanton Please fill the registration form, if you haven't already.
-
@ubnt-gunars Registered, thanks!
-
@karl-stanton I'll ping @UBNT-Chance to add you.
-
@Karl-Stanton, @Lu-Yip: Can you send router support info to gunars.ritins@ubnt.com right after this problem occurs? It would help us diagnose it.
-
@ubnt-gunars Next time, I will - not sure what other massive downloads I need to make from Apple, though. Any recommendations to sample?
-
@Karl-Stanton hey karl i just updated to beta firmware so far no crash... i uninstalled a few game just to redownload them and see if it crashes. so far so good let me know how yours go
-
@karl-stanton You can try one of their bundled apps (Garage Band, iMovie, Numbers etc.) or Xcode.
-
@ubnt-gunars Wow, that was odd timing. I just turned off my Xbox (wired into the router) and I refreshed this page to see if there were updates. I noticed my internet was at an absolute crawl. I looked at the Amplifi app and it couldn't locate the router. So I go and look at the router and I see that it's sitting at around 60Mbps down / 1.2Mbps up. I can hear the Xbox humming, so I turn it on and go to Network status and sure enough, its running an update (data coming from Microsofts servers). It peaked at about 330Mbps.
This was the exact problem I described. As soon as the update finished, I could then see the router and then I got a download of the router support info and emailed it to you.
-
@karl-stanton Is that with the latest beta?
-
@ubnt-gunars Nope, I haven't received my invite yet.
-
@karl-stanton Hi Karl! There is no invite. You just start receiving beta updates in the app.

@ubnt-gunars Awesome. Can see my router and 2 mesh points want to go from 2.4.3 to 2.5.4rc1. Sweet, I'll report back any issues on this topic.
