Hardware NAT breaks VPN

  • I have a VPN/proxy running on my NAS and if I enable hardware NAT I cannot reach it.

The NAS has a remote access app, and even with hardware NAT turned on I can access the NAS remotely. But the standard port forwarding to the VPN service will not work.

Turn off hardware NAT and I can instantly access the VPN again.

The NAS uses port 5000 and the VPN service uses the standard L2TP ports.

    Any ideas?

  • having same issues with openvpn, thanks for posting this 😄

  • can confirm that disabling hardware nat makes the vpn service works

    ping @UBNT-Gunars

  • If I had to bet I would say that it is handling port forwarding differently between the two methods.
